I try to make a solar cell based on small signal diodes …?

but every time I hook up the voltmeter it reads about 4-5 mv (0.04 to 0.05). So why is it that if I put the positive lead on one of the leading LED voltmeter still in bed. I disconnect the negative lead of the diode with the positive still connected and it always reads today. Why? It seems if I connect the wire negative to the diode current that is actually displayed on the voltmeter down. And if I touch the negative wire with my finger connected with the positive it seems that the voltage to go high. I do not understand what is going on.

0.04v is 40 mV at first. Voltmeters read the voltage, not current. When you have a single head of the connected device, the meter is picking up random signals from the air, such as RF energy or 60 Hz touch with your finger increases that collect signals from the air as you body now acts as an antenna. These readings are meaningless. You can get by simply hang the duct. A diode with no voltage applied is a very high impedance, so it will take over the sound of the air, like the leads do or your finger does. Put a resistor (10k maybe) through the diode. This will shunt the most noise and see if you get a voltage of the diode acts as a solar cell. Shine a bright light on it and turn if off and on and see if the voltage fluctuations. .
